About the Artist
Partly a product of my being a teacher of craft and design for many years, and partly the product of a restless curiosity I have worked with many mediums but particularly ceramics, fibre and digital media. I have produced the New Zealand Potters magazine: Ceramics Quarterly for several years and have another artist-hat that of designer of fabrics and products under the label Ecofabric.
I have a Masters degree in Fine Arts from RMIT The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University and I see making pots as much as work of art as any other genre, but one with a more direct connection with the user.
I love the way that the Empty Bowls Project brings handmade items into people’s lives, a reminder that you can have items in your home that are obviously made by someone and are individual, not chugged off an assembly line, as well as the fact that by working together we can give Downtown Community Ministry a sizable chunk of money to help people get back on their feet.
Currently I teach beginners and intermediate classes in various aspects of ceramics.
