About the Artist
I supported Empty Bowls in 2015, fighting hunger at a community level, and was impressed with the way Wellington Potters Association, other Clubs (especially Otaki Potters), and individual potters from around the Wellington region joined together to work towards this worthy project. It was inspiring to see the way everyone got behind it, and even more inspiring to see the public support in snapping up the bowls!
I’m a Wellington ceramic artist working mainly in stoneware clay. I sculpt and hand-build, using a variety of finishing techniques including glazing, burnishing and pit-firing, raku firing, oil paints, pigment and shellac, pigmented waxes and metallic rubs.
Working with clay provides my grounding force, and I can spend countless blissful hours working on one piece, carving, sculpting and burnishing. Our tactile sense is an important part of appreciating form and texture, and I feel happy when people want to touch and stroke my sculptures.
