Jennifer Turnbull – Jailhouse Pottery
About the Artist
Maker of exquisite ceramic pieces. One-off decorative and sculptural works and domestic ware, for everyday use or as a gift. Award winning potter.
I’m supporting Empty Bowls, because I feel it is a worthy cause. I like the connection between handmade bowls, food and helping those with less.
Jennifer has been a ceramic artist for over 25 years. Diploma of Fine Arts (Ceramics) 1990.
She tutors for Otago School of Fine Arts as a distance tutor/supervisor for the Diploma of Ceramic Arts, and teaches Adult night classes for Otaki pottery club. She also runs a couple of specialized workshops each year. Her work has won many awards and is in collections here and overseas.
Jennifer works in a variety of clays, and fires in electric and gas kilns, and uses a combination of techniques including throwing, altering, slab work and hand building. Throughout the year she focuses on groups or series of work, which has a theme for an exhibition or commission. Also produces a range of domestic ware and garden pieces.
She draws inspiration from the landscape, her garden and flora of New Zealand, specially the Kapiti Coast.
